All the single ladies, all the single ladies.. now put your hands up! Personally I've never had this problem, but Valentine's Day can be a very lousy day for some people when they're single. Yes, it's a very commercialized holiday. But I feel like people tend to forget that this day isn't just about having a significant other to show love to, but also family and friends you hold dear to your heart! But just in case, you think you're going to be miserable, I've come up with ten ways to make this year's Valentine's day a more special one. Have fun reading :)
1. A Solo Netflix and Chill

If you're a homebody like me, I'm sure there's nothing you enjoy more than your own company in the comfort of your home. And being single on Valentine's Day shouldn't feel any different. So climb in bed or curl up on your comfy coach, have a big bowl of buttered popcorn besides you at all times and let the binge watching of your favorite old shows begin!
2. DIY Home Spa
When you feel like taking a little break from all that netflixing, treat yourself to a relaxing home-spa session! Your mind and body will love you for it. What you'll need: some scented candles, zen music, colorful bath bombs, body scrub, face & hair mask.. and a bottle of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, if you're feeling fancy.
3. Pinterest Dinner Party

In case you rather not spend Valentine's Day alone, gather all your single gals together and host the most Pinterest-looking dinner party ever! Get some delicious looking recipes online and show everyone you're a kitchen princess in disguise. Deck the place out with cute dining linens, cutlery, plates and some pretty little flowers as the center piece. Get all of your friends to split the costs, or even more fun: DIY everything! Finish the dining area off with a few girly pillows, heart balloons and some sparkle! Don't forget to take lots of pictures!
4. Valentine's Day Desserts
And because sweets are a must on Valentine's day.. You can all put on some aprons and turn into pastry chefs in training! Dessert options are endless: ice cream, chocolate, macarons, cupcakes, popcakes.. or all of the above! Craving something else? Pinterest is the best dessert guide I know!
5. Spontaneous Girls Trip
Plan a spontaneous trip with all your favorite girls! It doesn't even need to involve an expensive airplane ticket. You can easily score cheap city trips on websites like HotelKamerVeiling and Groupon. And to top it all of, this year Valentine's Day falls perfectly during the weekend, so pack up some clothes and get ready for a fun weekend trip!
6. Create a Valentine's Day Photo Booth
source: Stocksy |
If you and your girls decide not to go on a fun single girls trip this Valentine's Day, no worries! There's plenty of fun to have in your own city. For instance, find a pink wall (or red one) and get some cute Valentine's Day hearts or XOXO balloons for a fun photo shoot session! If you have a polaroid camera, don't forget to bring it! I can almost guarantee people are going to want their own picture in front of your DIY wall.
7. Giving Flowers to Strangers
While you're in the city, find a flower market and get a bunch of beautiful bouquets of flowers. Every time you pass by a person you feel needs a little cheering up, give them one flower and watch their face light up! That way you'll make someone's day and you score good karma points! Win-win.
8. Send Anonymous Cards
Flowers equal happiness. But there's certainly other ways to get people to smile. Think: anonymously sending cute complimentary letters to your family and friends, or just random addresses. The letters don't have to be too elaborate. A simple "You're so kind" or cheesy "When in doubt, smile" quote will do the trick. Or if you really want to go all out, find some of your favorite movie quotes about love, friendship and kindness. You might not be around to see their reaction, but best believe they'll appreciate it!
9. Spoil Your Furry Friend / Visit an Animal Shelter
People aren't the only ones that deserve to be extra loved on Valentine's Day. So don't forget to be extra nice to your furry friends on this day. If you don't happen to have pets, you can always visit an animal shelter near you to get greeted by some wagging tails and spoil some cute little furry beings. Maybe even adopt?
10. Be Kind: Pay it Forward
Whatever your plans are on Valentine's Day, just make sure to be kind. To any and everyone. You never know what other people are going through and sometimes a simple act of kindness is all it takes to make things seem a little brighter. So pay it forward! Pay for the person behind you's coffee, because you don't know if they had to stay up all night worrying. Buy a homeless person lunch, because you don't know if they ate anything for breakfast or will eat anything for dinner. Give someone your smile, because you don't know if they've been crying minutes before. It's really that simple!
I really hope these ideas were helpful for any of you that were dreading spending Valentine's Day being single! Let me know what you're planning to do in the comments! Also, stay tuned for more Valentine's Day posts coming soon.
